Music Monday

Music Monday: Heavy by Linkin Park feat. Kiiara

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song and/or video and share it on Monday.

10 Weeks Book/Music Challenge

After a week off, I’m back with my 10 weeks book/music challenge. I’m trying to do something fun for the next couple of weeks to get some more content on my Instagram account. You know the 30 Days Song Challenge? I’m going to use that as prompt, though I’ll be picking liberally. For 10 weeks, each Monday, I’m going to pick one prompt and post one song and one book picture based on it.

The 2nd week’s prompt: A song/book you like by an artist no longer living

My song choice: Heavy by Linkin Park feat Kiiara

My book choice: Eclipse of the Crescent Moon by Géza Gárdonyi (for more info, visit my Instagram account)

Thoughts and other ramblings

Wow. My unconscious still can surprise me. So, as I was trying to settle for bed around 1:30 am, I decided to listen to some Linkin Park. Not exactly the music that’s suitable as a lullaby, but whatever. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to their music and it seemed right. As I was thinking about what song to pick for Music Monday, it occured to me that I should go with Linkin Park as it was about time of the anniversary of Chester‘s death. I went to investigate, and sure enough, he died on this day 3 years ago. It’s so goddamn hard to believe still.

Meteora (and soon after Hybrid Theory) was among my first gateway into rock and roll. Those two albums are still on my all time favourites list and I’ve been having In the End as my ringtone for years now. I lost sight of Linkin Park for years after, their style drifted away from what I liked to listen to and I honestly still don’t have any of those albums. Then One More Light came around and it was not accepted well by fans and critiques. But I loved it. Sure, it was more on the pop side, but Chester‘s voice shined. Heavy instantly got me hooked and I still love that song to pieces.

Even though I drifted away from Linkin Park, they still had a special place in my heart and I always will regret that I haven’t gone to their one and only Hungarian show just a couple of weeks before Chester‘s suicide. If nothing else, we still have his voice with us and hot damn he did have an incredible voice. He was gone so fucking soon.

Lyrics

[Chester Bennington:]
I don’t like my mind right now
Stacking up problems that are so unnecessary
Wish that I could slow things down
I wanna let go but there’s comfort in the panic
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything’s about me
Yeah I drive myself crazy
‘Cause I can’t escape the gravity

I’m holding on
Why is everything so heavy?
Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what’s bringing me down
If I just let go, I’d be set free
Holding on

[Kiiara:]
Why is everything so heavy?
You say that I’m paranoid
But I’m pretty sure the world is out to get me
It’s not like I make the choice
To let my mind stay so fucking messy
I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same

I’m holding on
Why is everything so heavy?
Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what’s bringing me down
If I just let go, I’d be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy?

[Chester Bennington:]
I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same

[Kiiara:]
I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything’s about me

[Chester Bennington:]
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy?
Holding on

[Chester Bennington and Kiiara]:
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what’s bringing me down
If I just let go, I’d be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy?

Why is everything so heavy?

[Chester Bennington:]
Why is everything so heavy?
