Music Monday: Zombie by Bad Wolves

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song and/or video and share it on Monday.

Thoughts and other ramblings

I’m honestly surprised I never used this song for Music Monday. It’s certainly not the first day (Monday, no less) when I feel like a total zombie. (Yes, I know this song is about something else, thanks.) But hey, there is no better time than the present, so here we go. I haven’t slept much this past couple of days – partly because I’m an idiot, and partly because I just had just such a good time that it was hard to leave the party. As results goes, I’m dead on my feet. On the plus side, we have a 4 days working week, so salvation is soooo close.

Anyway, back to Zombie. I was debating between the original, released by The Cranberries, which is such a classic, but if I’m being completely honest, I love the cover from Bad Wolves – and I hardly do love covers. It’s such a pity that Dolores couldn’t contribute to the cover as it was originally planned, because especially in the refrain, I can hear how freaking awesome it would have been if they joined their forces. And, honestly, I’m hardly into male-female duets (mostly because I hardly like any female singers), except when the female is Lzzy Hale, because she is unable to fuck up a good song with her incredible voice.

I, ugh, got sidetracked. This song was in my head (hah, pun intended) yesterday and was thinking about putting it up, so, here we go. I love this song, but the sad thing is, that after 16 years being released it’s still as relevant as ever. I know this song was originally about the children (and families) affeced by wars, but for me in a way it’s also about mental illnesses. It might be just my interpretation though.

Lyrics

Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence causes silence
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it’s not me
It’s not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their drones
In your head, in your head, they are crying

What’s in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What’s in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie, oh

Another mother’s breaking
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken

It’s the same old theme
In two thousand eighteen
In your head, in your head, they’re still fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their guns, and their drones
In your head, in your head, they are dying

What’s in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What’s in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie, oh

It’s the same old theme
In two thousand eighteen
In your head, in your head, they are dying

What’s in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What’s in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie, oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh yeah
