May is Eurovision month and I mostly posted stuff related to that. This song is only loosely related as Rednex was kicked out of the competition because the song they entered was already performed before and wasn’t entirely new. Anyway, I’ve read an article about Eurovision and Rednex by Catherynne M Valente who also wrote SFF book Space Opera which is being described as Eurovision in space. So, of course every time Rednex is mentioned, Cotton Eye Joe immediately got into my head and stayed right there. I was surprised to learn most people thought Rednex is an American band – they are in fact Swedish. Cotton Eye Joe was an integral part of my childhood, I remember seeing the video on TV countless times. It’s a damn catchy song, so once you hear it, it’s hard to forget. Also, there is no nostalgia party without this song.

Haha, yeah, it was EVERYWHERE when I was a kid. Apparently, a lot of people think so.
