Music Monday

Music Monday: Iris by Goo Goo Dolls

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song and/or video and share it on Monday.

Thoughts and other ramblings

Things song came up a lot in recent conversations with a friend. Our music taste is quite different although we ended up finding some bands/songs we both like. Yay! I’m sure we’ll have more in common once I can make him listen to all of my favorites, hah. Nevertheless, this is the first song we both know and love from before, so it’s kind of special 🙂

Anyway, Iris has been a big favorite of mine since I don’t know when. Early 2000s most probably. The song was released in 1998 and was part of the soundtrack of City of Angels. Those who seen that movie I’m sure can remember Nicholas Cage being drenched, looking for Meg Ryan and this song playing. One of the most powerful songs/scenes in romance movies ever.

I’m pretty sure this was the first Goo Goo Dolls song I’ve heard, but definitely not the last. I think they got recognised after this song and they are still going strong. Personally I like their later albums like Something for the Rest of Us, Magnetic, Boxes better. They matured a lot musically and personally as well. If everything goes as planned, I might going to see them this summer for the first time ever! Either this or a few days vacation. The decision is hard.

Lyrics

And I’d give up forever to touch you
‘Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t wanna go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
When sooner or later it’s over
I just don’t wanna miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
