Music Monday: Do You Really Want It? by Nothing More

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song and/or video and share it on Monday.

Thoughts and other ramblings

Do you really want it? That’s a question which is going to hunt me for the next few months, especially when we’ll near to a certain date. I’m not going into details, because I’ll end up jinxing it. Suffice to say my brain likes to play tricks on me and drive me up the wall with doubts and pointless thoughts, causing me overthinking every damn thing *sigh* Anyway I’m not here to complain, because I really want it and this is something I’m looking forward to, even if my brain doesn’t accept it yet. It’s going to be a blast. It has to.

So, Nothing More. I’ve been keeping an eye on them for a while now since their song This Is The Time popped up. Their self-titled debut album altough good, didn’t hook me that much. Then last year they released The Stories We Tell Ourselves and I was blown. That album is fucking brilliant. After I discovered We Go To War and listened to the whole album, I could hardly stop. I had to though, because once I get addicted to something I tend to listen to it until I can’t stand it anymore. And I want to enjoy this album in the future. Ever since I’ve been dying to see them perform. Gods of Music heard my plea, beacuse they’ll be the guest act for Stone Sour next month in Budapest so of course I had to purchase a ticket. I’m sure as hell I’ll be in the first line, because, you know, I want to see everything (it’s not  easy to accomplish that with my not even 5 feet height you know…). Altough Do You Really Want It? is not exactly my top favorite (Go To War, Just Say When, Fade In/Fade Out, Don’t Stop are my top) it seemed really appropiate in my current state of mind.

Even when the song’s topic is totally different from my situation. It’s more like a criticism to our society: we want a change but we don’t want to start that change in ourselves. It’s easier to preach about how the world, the society sucks when we don’t even see our own faults and flaws. The little things that make this world beautiful. It’s us who can turn it into whatever we want, if we really want it.

Lyrics

Do you really want it?

We say give me a high oh god give me a feeling
(Cause I’ve lost my reason)
We say give me a push, a push through this
(Concrete ceiling)
We say give me a sign that proves what I believe in
(A psychic reading)
So I can shake these american demons
Ohh, gimme, gimme, gimme

Everybody wants to change the world
But one thing’s clear
No one ever wants to change themselves
That’s the way things are
All because we hate the buzzkill
Jaded when we need to feel
But we can change it all
If you really want it

Do you really want it?
Do you really want it?

You gotta bite the bullet till your gums are bleeding
(Grab the mic and scream it)
You gotta dig up the past to get passed this
(Anxious feeling)
You gotta get ripped apart to see why you’re breathing
(To find your reason)
So I can shake these american demons
Ohh, gimme, gimme, gimme

Everybody wants to change the world
But one thing’s clear
No one ever wants to change themselves
That’s the way things are
All because we hate the buzzkill
Jaded when we need to feel
But we can change it all
If you really want it
But we can change it all

Do you really want it?
Do you, do you?
Do you really want it?
Do you, do you?
Ohh, so I can shake these american demons
Screaming, screaming, screaming

Everybody wants to change the world
But one thing’s clear
No one ever wants to change themselves
That’s the way things are
All because we hate the buzzkill
Jaded when we need to feel
But we can change it all
(We can change it all)
We can change it all
If you really want it

We can change it all
Ya, we can change it all
If you really want it
We can change it all
We can change it all

Everybody wants to change the world
(We can change it all)
No one ever wants to change themselves
(We can change it all)
Everybody wants to change the world
(We can change it all)
No one ever wants to change themselves
(We can change it all)
Everybody wants to change the world
(We can change it all)
No one ever wants to change themselves
(We can change it all)
Everybody wants to change the world
(We can change it all)
No one ever wants to change themselves
