Song of the Day: Carnival of Rust by Poets of the Fall

We have awoken to a rainy day here in Hungary. While I don’t particularly enjoy getting wet while trying to get to work, I love the smell of it along with wet grass. I don’t know, it has something magical in it. The promise of a world full of wonder and life. Night time, storm and rainy days were always my favorite time to listen to music and write. Anyway, since I started this blog, I’ve been waiting for a reason to write this post.

Poets of the Fall is THE band everyone should know about. Circa 12 years ago a friend of mine showed Carnival of Rust to me and they have been part of my life ever since. I could name a dozen of songs I absolutely love from this Finnish band and has some meaning for me, but my first love always will be Carnival of Rust. It happens to be my rainy day song as well. Sometime in 2013/2014 on a gruesome, cold and rainy autumn day I was headed to the university. As I waited for the bus to come this song came up on my player. And it clicked. This song was exactly what I needed, it was so perfect for my mood at the time, that I started to listen to it everytime it rains (and any other time I feel like). Having a rather long love/hate relationship with rain (I might tell you all about this in time… suffice to say, rain and me have a special bond), it seems right to link one of my most favorite songs to it.

So, today’s song is:

Lyric

D’ you breathe the name of your saviour in your hour of need,
And taste the blame if the flavor should remind you of greed?
Of implication, insinuation and ill will, ’til you cannot lie still,
In all this turmoil, before red cape and foil come closing in for a kill

Come feed the rain
’cause I’m thirsty for your love dancing underneath the skies of lust
Yeah, feed the rain
’cause without your love my life ain’t nothing but this carnival of rust

It’s all a game, avoiding failure, when true colors will bleed
All in the name of misbehavior and the things we don’t need
I lust for after no disaster can touch, touch us anymore
And more than ever, I hope to never fall, where enough is not the same it was before

Come feed the rain…
’cause I’m thirsty for your love dancing underneath the skies of lust
Yeah, feed the rain
’cause without your love my life ain’t nothing but this carnival of rust
Yeah, feed the rain
’cause I’m thirsty for your love dancing underneath the skies of lust
Yeah, feed the rain
’cause without your love my life ain’t nothing but this carnival of rust

Don’t walk away, don’t walk away, oh, when the world is burning
Don’t walk away, don’t walk away, oh, when the heart is yearning
Don’t walk away, don’t walk away, oh, when the world is burning
Don’t walk away, don’t walk away, oh, when the heart is yearning
